The life of your tattoo is dependent upon the care it receives in the
first few days. You should keep the tattoo covered with the bandage
for at least 8 hours. After this time, remove the bandage. If it
sticks to the skin, wet the area down with cool water and remove
the bandage carefully. Once the tattoo is exposed, wash thoroughly
with soap and water. Be sure to remove all surface blood and rinse
all remaining soap. Pat lightly to dry.
With clean hands, apply a light coat of BACITRACIN or MYCITRACIN
ointment at least 3 times a day for 1 week. This ointment can be
purchased at any local drug store. If a rash occurs, discontinue
use. Alternatives are A&D ointment. If the rash persists, Dermassage
hand lotion can be applied.
The tattoo will develop a layer of dry skin, let this
fall off naturally. After the skin has fallen off, apply hand lotion
for 1 week as the skin adjusts to the new tattoo.
